Austin ISD Numeracy Plan Theory of Action 2010:
If we create mathematically literate classroom cultures by using real-life connections to encourage inquiry, reasoning, communication, and problem solving, then students will develop/acquire the beliefs, dispositions and habits of mind that lead to academic and career success.

Meetings:
1) 9/15/10: agenda/sign-in/sign; numeracy definition work;
2) 9/21/10; agenda/sign-in/handouts;
3) 9/28/10; agenda; literacy components HO; Assignment:
- Please use the New Hampshire Action Plan parts referenced at the last meeting (pg 49, p51, Habits of Mind, etc.) to your version of "Components of a Strong School-Wide Numeracy Program". The draft Numeracy Talking Points I turned in yesterday and the Literacy documents that could be a starting point.
Please bring copies to share and send to me electronically or post on the wiki by 10/10.
2. Please help create a list of concepts students struggle with (or misconceptions?) by grade span you can address that impact Numeracy.
The New Hampshire Action Plan has a list of the "Big" Ideas - The most crucial topics taught at each grade span starting on page 62.
You could also use the Texas Response to the Focal Points "Big" Ideas documents: TX focal points, AISD Matrix
Please bring copies to share and send to me electronically or post on the wiki by 10/10.
4) 10/12/10 (CAC Board Room): Agenda, Academic Team presentation (Talking points, ppt),, Numeracy Components (From Beth & Pam),
Walter materials location: http://generative.edb.utexas.edu/materials/aisd.htm
5) 10/19/10 (A230): Agenda,
RtI Mathematics DRAFT handouts:
AISD RtI Mathematics Model K-5 2010_2011rev1.docx ;
AISD RtI Mathematics Model 6-8 2010_2011.docx
Current work you may get requests for input on:
1) Refine Numeracy Components (Thanks for helping Pam with this!)
2) Refine East Side Stoplight form (Thanks for helping Norma with this!)
3) Refine the AISD Numeracy Definition to be more user friendly (Walter and Norma made some adjustments - see above)
I'm wondering if Habits of Mind can incorporate some of the terms...
